What Users think about Marcos Janitorial Service

Post A Review

I can relate to the previous two reviewers experience with Marcos, but my experience has been less extreme.   I have used a few other services over the years, and I would recommend Marcos over others.

They normally send a 3-4 man crew to my place for 1-1.5 hrs.  They blast through it and get it done quickly without a lot of dancing around.  They bring their own equipment and cleaning supplies.  Marcos also manages the crew and the nature of the work, which makes this a janitorial service rather than a domestic employee.   For me, the tax implications of this are more appealing.

In some areas, I find they are exceptionally detailed.   Particularly on the kitchen, they seem to always clean out the fridge and spend a lot of time on the stove.  Bathrooms are also good,   I can understand the earlier reviewer's frustration with their table, as they frequently move furniture to ensure that the floors are cleaned properly.  I have two dogs and and the before vs. after is striking.

They do dust and attack the cob webs each time too, but this isn't a "house detail" job.    If you want the baseboards all to be wiped and the window tracks to be cleaned out weekly with a toothbrush, you might need to negotiate for that.   The guys work hard (I'm here when they work normally), so the level of service you receive is largely proportional to how much service you sign up for.  Marcos touts the caulking and other small services as a differentiating bonus but I didn't find that to be up to my standards.

Trust is a big issue in this business and I never had any occasion to not trust Marcos and the guys to come into my home.   They seem to have a much lower turnover than some other services which I have used, which means that you don't have to get accustomed to new people every 4-6 months.

Unfortunately, I've recently had a different experience from the previous reviewer. I had first used this cleaning service in early 2008 when I was moving out. They did a nice job. I decided to use them again last month.

First the good news: They do a good job cleaning the unit and were very thorough. At first I thought the quote was a bit high, but they brought in 3 guys who worked over 2 hours in my one bedroom unit. That's about 7 man hours of work for $95. A good deal.

Now the bad news: While cleaning, they broke a CFL bulb and didn't tell me. It's possible they didn't even know they broke it. After I found out later that night, I called and they would not admit to it. I know they busted it because it's a lamp I use every night and was working the night before. Since the bulb contains mercury, I spent the next couple of hours moving furniture and cautiously cleaning the area in hopes of picking up all toxic pieces. If that wasn't bad enough, I then found that they had left chunks of industrial steel wool inside my kitchen sink garbage disposal. When I had turned it on it made a metal grinding noise and after inspecting it, found the pieces. I had to stick my hand down there and remove about 8 to 9 pieces of this stuff to clear it. Very scary. I also found that they had cracked a leg on my dining room table. When they were vacuuming, the worker dragged the table to provide access for vacuuming. I heard a loud crack and so did a co-worker cleaning the kitchen. I inspected the table but could not find anything wrong. It was only the next day when I made a thorough inspection did I find that glue hold the table leg had cracked. It's still held together by screws, but the glue kept the leg from wobbling.

I had mentioned all these issues to Marcos' office staff, but never heard back from Marcos after that first call about the CFL bulb. I would have given 5 stars based on the cleaning and value, and even 3 stars if he'd man'd up and dealt with the problems. But he chose to ignore them, so he's won himself the lowest rating.

I strongly recommend this service.

Marcos has been in business for many years.  His team of 3 guys cleans my house (downstairs only) every 2 weeks for $70 -- that's *half* the price of the other service I had been using, and they do just as good a job or better. That's $70 for ~1500 square feet -- kitchen, 2 bathrooms, bedroom, laundry room, great room, dining room.  They blitz in, work like crazy for an hour, and they're gone. It's great.

One time they showed up but were unable to clean -- the water to my house had been unexpectedly turned off by a maintenance crew -- and Marcos' team left and didn't charge me for the wasted day.  I appreciated that -- a lot of services, if you cancel at the last minute, they charge you anyway for their wasted time.

When you call, Marcos comes out to take a look at your place and give you an estimate.  His team can also do special one-off services for an additional fee, like cleaning out your refrigerator, washing windows, caulking your tub, etc.
